About

partners in aviation

Partners In Aviation (PIA) provides a sensible solution for operators flying 50 to 150 hours per year through its PIA Managed Co-Ownership program. PIA matches two qualified owners to one aircraft, providing the legal structure allowing access, autonomy, and security to fly privately – at half the cost of traditional options.

Fractional, Membership and JetCards offer rotating aircraft and crew at a cost that many operators find excessive. PIA Managed Co-Ownership offers a different level of control. Owners fly their aircraft, with their crew – at half the cost.

  • Two owners

PIA introduces their clients to  vetted and qualified co-owner candidates in the same region, with similar interests.

PIA Co-Owners typically fly 1 to 2 flights per month, averaging 5 days or less in their aircraft.

This allows each owner 25 days of access each month – at half the cost of traditional options.

    Structured Co-Ownership –
    Not DIY partnership.

  • one aircraft

For non-owners, PIA provides aircraft options suitable to their mission and budget.

For sole-owners, PIA allows them to keep their aircraft and introduces co-owner candidates who share the capital cost and operating expenses.

PIA offers options in all categories: Turboprop, Light Jet, Midsize, Super MidSize and Heavy Jet.

    Co-Owners Choose.

  • half the cost

Sole-owners bear 100% burden of capital and operating costs, while often underutilizing the assets deployed. PIA allows owners to split both the capital and fixed costs, while maintaining access comparable to sole-ownership.

Fractional, Jet Card and Membership users pay for an infrastructure and fringe-benefits they often don’t want or need. PIA Co-Owners gain more control at a lower net cost.

    All the access –
    Without the Excess.

Mark Molloy | Executive Leadership

Mark Molloy, Founder and President of Partners In Aviation, has been involved in business aviation for over 40 years. After graduating from the University of Illinois in 1981 with a degree in Business/Finance, Mark began his aviation career with Beechcraft, selling King Airs, Barons, and Bonanzas in Chicago and the Upper Midwest.

After more than three decades representing Beechcraft and working with owners looking for a more prudent path to ownership, Mark retired from the OEM in 2016 to launch Partners In Aviation and introduce PIA Managed Co-Ownership. This program matches two owners to share one aircraft, allowing them to operate at half the cost of conventional ownership.

Featured in Forbes and Barons, with matches now flying from coast to coast and in every category (Light to Heavy Jet), PIA Managed Co-Ownership has established itself as a cost-efficient alternative to Fractional and Membership/Jet-Card models, and one that provides operators with more control over the aircraft and crew flying them.

Mark is a Type-Rated/ATP pilot with over 4,000 hours. He and his wife (Patti) live in suburban Chicago and have three grown children.

The Origin of PIA

Throughout a three-plus-decade career selling new aircraft, Mark Molloy noticed that operators with low-to-medium usage requirements struggled with finding the right solution when it came to their private aviation options.

For those flying less than 50 hours per year, charter, jet cards and membership programs made the most sense.

For those flying more than 150 hours per year, sole ownership was the logical path. Even considering cost of capital, the advantages and control that came with having their own aircraft and crew provided the best option.

But for those in the middle, those flying around 100 hours per year, the choice was not as clear.

Of all the options available, partnerships offered the strongest financial path. But the myriad of  issues that plagued typical  partnerships made this option unappealing to most mainstream owners. Despite the significant cost advantage, Molloy observed that most partnerships were notorious for their complications, risks and entanglements. Finding an acceptable partner was the proverbial needle in a haystack, and piece-mealing the  required agreements was ad hoc, at best.

The math was compelling. The structure and the path to get there were missing.

Solving those issues became the genesis of Partners in Aviation (PIA). The goal was to develop a program that offered the financial advantages of a partnership with the independence, and peace of mind, that comes with sole ownership.

Molloy partnered with longtime friend and aviation marketing veteran Tom Bertels, and they consulted top aviation experts in finance, legal, tax, aircraft management and maintenance. The team went to work identifying the weak spots inherent to DIY partnerships and created a program that makes sense to owners, satisfies their counsel, and works within the stringent requirements of the FAA and the IRS.

The result is PIA Managed Co-Ownership: A smart, comprehensive ownership solution that addresses all of the challenges low-usage operators face.

Over 30 years in the making, Partners in Aviation was officially launched on September 7, 2016, to overwhelmingly positive reaction and industry support.
